Keep Youth Close to Home: Governor Newsom Needs to Hear from You!

Help us keep young people closer to home!

SB 284 (Beall), the Keep Youth Close to Home Act, encourages counties to keep youth nearer to family and community by creating a financial disincentive for sending young people to the DJJ facilities. This bill will be an important step in ensuring that young people are kept out of California's remote and dangerous state institutions.

What can I do with 5 minutes?

All you need to do is make one call to the Governor's office at 1 (916) 445-2841 to request that he sign SB 284 into law. The bill passed in the California Assembly on Tuesday, September 3rd and now the Governor needs to hear from you! He has to sign the bill before October 13th and every call counts.

What should I say?

"Hello, my name is [NAME] from [CITY and/or ORGANIZATION]. I'm calling to ask for Governor Newsom's signature on SB 284, which will help keep young people out of state institutions and closer to their families and communities. Our youth need the support of loved ones and community resources. Please register my request for the Governor's signature on this important bill."
