Study Finds People With Mental Illness 16 Times More Likely To Be Killed By Police

Blue Nation Review links a CJCJ article showing high police murder rates of Native Americans to high rates of mental suffering among Native Americans. 

A 2014 study by the Center on Juvenile and Criminal Justice found that Native Americans, like Tahhahwah, are the group most likely to be killed by police. While accounting for just 0.8 percent of the overall population, Natives constitute 1.9 percent of police killings. But a recent study released in December and conducted by the Treatment Advocacy Center, a nonprofit advocating for the treatment of mental illnesses, helps us analyze another dimension of Tahhahwah’s death: mental health.”
