This report is a preliminary portrait of some key trends in youth violence and the juvenile justice system in Monterey, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz counties. It is designed to give an overview of what the data available can reveal about patterns of youth violence and justice involvement, the relationship of those patterns to race, ethnicity, and gender, and how they have changed overtime since the mid-1980s.
