CJCJ’s Cameo House is an innovative residential program for houseless justice-involved women and their children in San Francisco.

An external evaluation of Cameo House found that 100% of participants with substance issues show decreased use, 78% of participants moved into permanent and stable housing, and 77% of participants gained employment.

In collaboration with Cameo House, CJCJ team member, Renée Menart, authored an uplifting children's book about a boy who heals with his family while his mom is far from home. As of December, over $1,700 was donated to Cameo House from the book’s proceeds to support families in need.

CJCJ Senior Policy Manager Maureen Washburn investigated conditions at California’s youth correctional system, amid surging COVID-19 outbreaks. Maureen and CJCJ’s Communications and Policy team authored a letter to the Governor outlining recommended actions, which received support from 60 organizations across California.

As we congratulate the 2021 Next Generation Fellows, we welcome justice-involved leaders to apply for our 2022 cohort by January 31st!

The Next Generation Fellowship (NGF) is a policy advocacy training for formerly incarcerated or justice-involved individuals across California. In 2021, CJCJ continued facilitating NGF in partnership with Motivating Individual Leadership for Public Advancement (MILPA), a community-based organization in Salinas, California.

NGF supports emerging leaders impacted by the justice system through three 2-day learning sessions. By the end of the program, fellows develop and present independent projects focused on advancing racial justice, cultural healing, and policy advocacy.

“I gained so much valuable information about policy advocacy from CJCJ. I also was deeply touched by the cultural connection provided by MILPA. My time with both organizations and the other fellows has been monumental for me.” - NGF Fellow

2022 marks NGF’s fifth anniversary! We welcome community members to apply by Monday, January 31, 2022 to join our next cohort of powerful emerging leaders. In 2022, NGF will continue supporting fellows as they develop their leadership and advocacy abilities to improve community safety for all Californians.
