Transparency & Accountability

Improved data collection and accessibility is essential to analyzing statewide justice policy and strategies pertaining to public safety. Transparency of statewide leadership processes enable stakeholders to stay informed on justice issues.

CJCJ grounds its policy recommendations and advocacy in data-driven analyses using a broad source of the most up-to-date criminal and juvenile justice data available, including:

CJCJ also regularly advocates for improving county data collection systems and increasing resources for accurate statewide data dissemination.

CJCJ staff provide unofficial updates relating to the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC). For official meeting materials, please visit http://www.bscc.ca.gov/.

As part of CJCJ’s efforts to monitor the state youth correctional system, the Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), we maintain a repository of DJJ data reports spanning 2010 to 2020. These reports, which are no longer available on the division’s public webpage, provide vital information about the composition of DJJ’s youth population, its levels of violence, and the imbalance in county rates of committing youth to DJJ.
